Round Melon is also known as Indian Squash, Indian round gourd, apple gourd, and Indian baby pumpkin is a vegetable mainly popular as Tinda in India. The unique squash-like gourd is native to India. The plant is also prickly with small thorns similar to the zucchini. Tinda is a famous nickname among Punjabi families, yet is a popular vegetable. It is considered as a boring vegetable by many due to it is used in a lot of curries during high season and tastes bland unless used with a lot of spices.

Soil & Climate –

Cultivating round melon requires sandy loam soils rich in organic matter with good drainage and pH ranging from 6.5 to 7.5. The crop requires a moderately warm temperature. It prefers light or sandy soils where its roots can easily penetrate. It requires the warm and sunny condition of 25-300c at daytime and 180c or more during the night.

Season of the plantation –

The most appropriate season for the sowing of Tinda Seeds is January & February when the climate is neither too hot nor too cold.

Irrigation –

In case of continuous drought, irrigation requires before pouching. It requires watering 2-3 times a week which is highly recommended during the dry season.

Harvest –

Round Melon is harvested at the nearly mature green stage when the fruit has a diameter of about 10-12 cm and the seed is still soft from inside.
